CVE-2026-105753

MEDIUM 6.5

Published 2026-10-05 · Last modified 2026-10-06

vLLM is an inference and serving engine for large language models. Prior to 0.28.0, the default mirrored multimodal LRU cache can commit a media hash in the frontend sender cache during multimodal rendering and before engine admission, while the engine receiver cache never receives the payload if that request is rejected. A later request reusing the same media hash causes MultiModalProcessorSenderCache to send no payload and MultiModalReceiverCache to reach an assertion with the message "Expected a cached item," producing a shared-service availability failure. This issue is fixed in version 0.28.0.

Vendor product assessments

    • workaround: The vulnerability affects only vLLM's default mirrored LRU multimodal processor cache configuration; the upstream advisory states that the shared-memory FIFO cache path and fully disabled caching are not affected. Administrators can work around this issue by changing the multimodal processor cache configuration: either set mm_processor_cache_type to "shm" to use the shared-memory FIFO cache instead of the mirrored LRU cache, or set mm_processor_cache_gb to 0 to disable the multimodal processor cache entirely (upstream notes that fully disabling this cache is not recommended because past multimodal inputs must then be re-processed). Restricting access to the inference API to trusted clients also reduces exposure. The upstream project has fixed this issue in vLLM 0.28.0; the fix for the affected Red Hat products is deferred, so no fixed Red Hat packages are available at this time.
